Origins and History of Aromatherapy

As a form of medicine, Aromatherapy has been around for as long as humans have been able to note the impact of certain scents on the body. Modern aromatherapy uses essential oils derived from plants or other aromatic compounds to enhance mood, mind, mental function, and overall well being. Claims of benefits range from mood enhancement and stress relief to improved healing.  Some of these actually have scientific backing, like tea tree oil’s anti-microbial properties or lemon oil’s use as a mood enhancer and anti depressant.

Originally, these oils were made by macerating dried plant material in oil and then heating the mixture followed by filtering it. In the eleventh century the method for gaining these oils changed and distilled oils of this type have been known for hundreds of years. Modern use of the word goes back to 1907, but it was the documented use of lavender oil in 1937 by René-Maurice Gattefossé that shed modern light on the practice. Similarly these oils were used in WWII as antispetics on wounded soldiers.

If your oils arrive safely due to the job of the edge protector there are several ways that they can be applied.  If they do not arrive safely, then you might need to request jumbo edge protectors or better custom packaging solutions, but back to application. There are different modes used for using aromatherapy. These include aerial diffusion by spray or smoke, direct inhalation through breathing in vapors, and topical application often coupled with massage, bathing, or other therapeutic skin care regimens.

Oils come in different weights.  Absolutes are a type of oil extracted using ethanol and come from flowers or delicate plant tissues.  One common type of this is rose absolute.  Carrier oils use triglyceride base to dilute essential oils so that they are safe for direct application, one example of this is sweet almond oil. Oils extracted though steam distillation or expression are called essential oils. In this category is eucalyptus oil and grapefruit oil.   Byproducts of distillation are called herbal distillates or hydrosols.  One type commonly found is rosewater. Others one might see include chamomile and lemon balm. One may find infusions, phytoncides, and vaporizers also.

Because the nature of these items is delicate it pays to make sure the edge protector is included in the box to keep the bottles from shifting and that all pallets have jumbo edge protectors as part of the custom packaging solutions used by any maker of these products. Not doing so can lead to messy, dangerous levels of harmful oils leaked out because of broken bottles. To ensure that you get the best oils and aromatherapy products for yourself you want to pay close attention to how they are packaged. While there are many theories as to why aromatherapy works, the fact is the practice is time tested and with a little knowledge can be a great way to enhance your life, health, and mental well being. Take time to learn about the practice and find scents that work for you specifically and you will reap many benefits.

Healing Life one Aroma at a Time

For as long as we have had recorded time people have done what they can to make themselves and their environment smell better. It makes us think of things as clean and fresh or dirty. It can either turn us on or off. In short, smells and aromas have been the key to humanity for a long time. Need some convincing? When was the last time that you walked into a kitchen where cookies were baking? Chances are that it made your mouth water. How about the last time you drove past a dead skunk on the interstate? I’ll bet your eyes filled up with tears and you felt sick.

Apply that same theory to your home. Yes, you could easily use powder on the rugs or a spray in the air or the little plug in air fresheners. They all have a place in today’s society. But the aroma candle has a special place. You can light one up and almost instantly have the smell of fresh baked cookies in the kitchen or Christmas trees in the living room. Strawberry candles also work well in restrooms.

But what can you do about the night after a particularly stressful day? Maybe you were working towards getting your Green Card or spent the afternoon filling out the immigration application forms the way that they need to be done. Maybe you were studying for the US citizenship exam. No matter the reason you might be really stressed to the max. A simple aroma candle that is designed to add tranquility and peace and harmony to the room might be all that you need to get things back on the right track again.

The candle makers have made the decision after a lot of heavy research that the public wants and needs candles with aromas that will help to change the mood of the mind and body. Therefore they have developed a wide range of scents to match almost any need or desire that you might have.

A walk through a candle store or an online web search will tell you just how big this market is. In fact, even a walk through the local family super center will yield a wide range of various smells as you walk down through the section where they store and sell the candles. It has become a big source of revenue and that makes it a very big deal in today’s retail world.

While it is true that not everyone needs and aroma candle burning every night in their home, it is still a good idea to do some research and keep one or two of them on hand to help you ward off the occasional bout of ill feeling that this world today can bring into our homes. So it may be a good idea to apply what we have learned and let our senses of smell take us to a place that we might otherwise not be able to reach after that really bad day.

Different Types of Aromatherapy

There are many different types of aromatherapy that can be used. If you are looking for this as a method of healing for yourself or for a gift for a friend you need to know the differences and what you should expect. These different types include incense, candles, and essential oils.

Aromatherapy is a proven method of healing and it is one of the most popular methods of healing today because it is a natural form that is not invasive. You don’t have to take pills or consume anything when you use aromatherapy. All you have to do is inhale and enjoy the benefits.

Essential oils are the best way to enjoy the healing benefits of aromatherapy. If you are going to buy these gifts to place underneath the artificial Christmas trees you should choose these oils. The most important factor to remember is that you should buy essential oils and not fragrant oils. Fragrant oils are fake and not the real thing. You will know by the price of the oils if you have the right thing or not. Oils are usually rubbed on the skin so you can enjoy the aroma throughout the day or even before you go to bed to provide for a more relaxing sleep. You can pour essential oils in a hot bath also.

When you buy aromatherapy products for your friends and family members you can also purchase candles. You don’t want to put items underneath the lighted palm trees that have an aroma that is displeasing to them. For example, if you buy a peanut butter smelling candle and the person is allergic to peanuts you may trigger a reaction or they just won’t be able to use it. You should put some type of thought into your gift and not just grab a candle off of the shelf. This is the biggest mistake people make when they buy items for aromatherapy and gifts to place under Christmas trees. Care about the person you are buying for.

The next type of aromatherapy people love to use is incense. Incense is burned and last for a short period of time but they can leave the scent in the room for some time. This is a good thing but you must be sure who you buy incense for if they are going to like them. Many people absolutely do not like incense and they will not be pleased with the gift. When you buy gifts for Christmas you must think about the recipient. It may be something you love but not everyone shares the same pleasures.

Buying gifts for the holidays is a lot of fun. Aromatherapy is an excellent choice for a gift but you must consider the type of aromatherapy you are buying and for who you are buying for. The different types of aromatherapy include incense, candles, and oils. If you do not know the scents the person you are buying for enjoys you should ask or not choose this item as a gift.

Considerations when Buying Aromatherapy as Gifts

When you purchase aromatherapy products as gifts for people you need to consider a few things. These things include the scents, type of aromatherapy you choose, and the person you are buying for.

When you purchase gifts for people this holiday season there are two things to remember. You should always put some thought into the gift you buy and never buy a gift card. If you buy a gift card for someone you show them that you don’t care about them and it is rude. When you put thought into a gift you will do well and win the favor of the recipient. You shouldn’t even place gifts under the white Christmas trees if you haven’t put any thought into the gift.

Aromatherapy is an excellent gift for someone who has issues or problems they need healing efforts to occur. This is an excellent solution if you know a friend that gets frequent headaches, has trouble sleeping, and is highly stressed out they can benefit through aromatherapy efforts. They will love you for the consideration too, especially when they begin to feel better.

When you purchase aromatherapy products to put underneath the Christmas trees you need to think about the scents the person enjoys to be around. If you purchase a scent that someone cannot stand they will not be relaxed or be able to enjoy the aromas. Instead they will be irritated and annoyed with the aroma. When you buy something that smells nice to the person and they absolutely love they will be able to benefit more. This is a big deal, which is why you absolutely have to put some thought into your gift. Do not buy aromatherapy products for someone you don’t know well or pay enough attention to know. If you choose incorrectly they will know you really don’t pay attention to them when they unwrap their gifts from underneath the prelit Christmas trees.

Another factor when you purchase aromatherapy products is the type you buy for the person you are buying for. There are three types of aromatherapy products which include oils, candles, and incense. Candles and incense emit fumes into the air. Some candles with metal wicks put off carbon monoxide poison into the air also. Incense emits a smoke. You should never buy incense and candles that are not natural candles for people who have problems with respiratory issues. This includes people who suffer from asthma, emphysema, and other respiratory diseases.

When you purchase aromatherapy products for gifts this season there are a few things to consider. Know the person you are buying for and care about if they will really like the product. Maybe they don’t like rubbing oils on their body. You want to be sure they like the scent too. When you don’t put a lot of thought into a gift it is obvious to the person and it can only lead to hurting their feelings. Be sure you show someone you care this year by giving a gift you put a lot of thought into.

Aromatherapy Instead of Medication for Stress

Aromatherapy is a good alternative if you are taking medications for stress. You can benefit many ways through aromatherapy.

Doctors are quick to prescribe medications. Some doctors might be getting a kickback from the pharmaceutical company to pass out the drugs. Other doctors may just be quick to give a prescription. Prescription medication is not always the good choice. This is because every body is different. Medication contains chemicals and most medications are hard on the body’s internal organs like the liver, which is responsible for processing the chemicals.

Aromatherapy is a natural method you can use for stress. You can light soy candles with handfuls of different scents that are known to treat symptoms of stress. You can use body oils and rub them on your body so you wear the scent all day long. This is the most common way for treating stress through aromatherapy, with the use of oils.

When you use aromatherapy for treating stress, you don’t have to worry about side effects. Some people are sensitive to medications. If you do not want to take pills for your stress then you should consider using Trapp candles with scents like chamomile, geranium, clary sage, and juniper berry. There are also oils you can buy in these aromas. You can begin to experience relaxation and stress relief immediately after rubbing just a drop or two of oil. Why take a medication that might make you vomit or not be able to think clearly, when you can find relief through natural aromas?

Prescription medications are also expensive. You should not pay to see a doctor because you are stressed and then pay for a prescription. Aromatherapy is cheap. Candles and oils are inexpensive and can provide what you need without a prescription. You can by aromatic items in your local stores and on the Internet. You can save a lot of money when you don’t use prescription medication for stress. If you have severe side effects then you will only be forced to see a doctor again.

If you need stress relief now, go to any local drug store and find aromatherapy candles that will help you right away. If you can wait a few days then you might consider shopping online for your products. You will be able to find candles online because an internet marketing consultant most likely optimized the site.

Prescription drugs for stress can be dangerous to the body. You might be taking another prescription needed for your heart and the stress drugs may conflict. When you take a prescribed medication from a doctor there should be no other remedy. Pills often have side effects like sickness and you might even have to wait for the drugs to kick in. The use of aromatherapy is not harmful to your health and it can give you immediate results for stress. Don’t let your stress lead to other medical problems because you relied on a prescription. Relieve your stress the natural way through aromatherapy.
